Running for Iftar
My name is Saim Ali and I am the President of the Uyghur NextGen Project and a proud Muslim. During this holy month of Ramadan, I will be holding a fundraiser for Iftar to support the broader Islamic community. On April 24th, I will be running the Brooklyn Half Marathon and hope that I can count on your support!
What is Iftar?
Fasting is one of the five pillars of the Islamic faith, and during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, Muslims fast every day from sunrise to sunset. That means they do not eat or even drink water during the day. The pre-dawn meal is known as Suhoor, and the fast-breaking meal eaten after sunset is called Iftar. It is a time for family, friends, and community members to come together in celebration of their faith.
How will be the funds be used?
All funds will go to providing Iftar meals for Uyghur NextGen’s Palwan Project team members and students. After students finish their courses for the day, they will have Iftar right in the community center. It will allow them to forge closer bonds and maintain their studies through Ramadan.
